CSE Welcomes New Faculty

DR. PAUL ATZBERGER

Assistant Professor Paul Atzberger arrived at the Mathematics department at UCSB fall 2006. He received his doctorate degree from the Courant Institute at New York University with the dissertation, "Stochastic Modeling of the Kinesin Motor Protein." Following his Ph.D., Dr. Atzberger spent three years at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as a post-doctoral researcher where he was awarded the NSF Vertical Integration of Research and Education in the Mathematical Sciences (VIGRE) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. Professor Atzberger's research interests are stochastic fluid dynamics, stochastic numerical methods, molecular motor proteins, coarse-grained models of cellular mechanics, and membrane vesicle formation and shape transformations. Currently, Dr. Atzberger has a three-year NSF Mathematical Biology grant.
