Funds are available for students participating in the IGERT program for travel to attend conferences to present research results. Each IGERT student may apply for a portion of these funds by writing a travel proposal describing the nature of their research project and how the travel requested would benefit the project. The text of the proposal should be no longer than 1 page (double spaced), plus budget.
Normally, only a single request will be funded for each student. However, this does not mean that funding is guaranteed or automatic. Some proposals for funding may be rejected, in which case the proposal will be returned to the student with the evaluations of the reviewers. Such proposals may be resubmitted or a new proposal may be submitted at a later date.
Proposals may be submitted any time while a student is supported under the IGERT program. Requests for funding will be reviewed by the Executive Committee of the IGERT Program.
Proposals will be reviewed at the monthly meeting of the IGERT Program Committee.
The average amount awarded is expected to be approximately $1,500.
Students receiving grants are required to write a 1-2 page report on how their presentation was received within one month of their return from the conference.
